DO BUYERS OFFER MORE FOR A STAGED HOME?

The California Association of Realtors conducted a survey to finally determine if staging a home increase its sales price. In theory, staging a listing helps a buyer view it as a home and has been key to selling homes, especially in luxury markets like Beverly Hills and the Hollywood Hills.

Somewhat surprisingly, the median dollar spent on staging a home in California came in at only $675. But what was the average Realtor’s return on that investment? Almost a full third of staged homes realized an increase of 1% to 5% in offer price. 16 % noted an increase in 6% to 10%, and the remaining 4% said there was an increase in 1% to 3%.

Conversely, a full 28% replied that they weren’t sure if staging had any impact on offer or sales pricing and another 19% noticed “no impact”.

Just as in most of life, there is that ever important question in home staging: Who’s going to pay? CAR also included questions about who foots the home staging bill in their survey, with the following results:

62% of Realtors offer home staging services to sellers.

39% of sellers pay for staging before listing the home.

10% of sellers pay for staging after the home is sold.

3% of Realtors’ firm pay for the home staging service.
