SMART HOME TECHNOLOGY: NOT JUST FOR MILLENNIALS

According to a recent survey by HGTV and promoted by the California Association of Realtors, it’s not just Millennials who value “Smart Technology” in their homes. Across all generations, including or upgrading existing technologies in their home was a high priority.

Almost half of all participants, 46 percent, want homes equipped with smart home technology. Another 51 percent said if they were selling their home they would consider installing smart home technology in order to make their listing more appealing to all potential home buyers.

unnamedNot surprisingly, Millennials do value smart technology more than other generations. They were ten times more likely to consider upgrading their homes. Nearly half already have energy management technology in their homes, such as the enormously popular and now Google-owned Nest Smart Thermostat.

A huge seventy percent believe that it’s important that their smart home technology integrates with their smartphone. In other words, don’t even bother upgrading without a corresponding app. We covered some of these app-ready home tech upgrades in our 2015 Hot Home Design Trend rundown.

Smart home technology has moved well beyond thermostats, apps are now easily able to control lighting, security systems and of course anything audio-visual related.
