In the hills above our Mid-Century meets Contemporary Home of the Week in the Los Feliz Estates, you’ll find the new home of actress and heiress Rooney Mara. Property records indicate that Mara purchased the house in an off-market deal from actor Alexander Skarsgard.
Rooney Mara is the Oscar-nominated star of the “Girl With the Dragon Tattoo” franchise, with the next chapter “The Girl Who Played With Fire” coming soon. Alexander Skarsgard is best known for his hunky vampire role on the “True Blood” series, but will soon don a loincloth in the 3-D reboot of Tarzan.
Mr. Skarsgard will see a nice and very rapid return on his initial investment, having purchased the property only three years ago for $1.85 million. Records indicate that Ms. Mara paid $2.95 million for the home, though since the deal was off-market there are no marketing materials to compare the current state of the home to when it last sold.
The almost 2,500 square foot residence is a single story 1960’s era contemporary built by architect Phil Brown. Located at the end of a private and winding cul-de-sac, it sits on a hillside parcel of about a quarter-acre.
Officially the “low-slung former bachelor pad” has two beds and baths, but an office or den area off the kitchen would probably be listed as a third had the home gone to market. A large foyer divides the bedrooms from the home’s central hub, a 30 foot long combination living and dining room.
This main living room has wood floors, a wood-burning fireplace and not one but two walls of floor-to-ceiling glass sliders.
A slim deck wraps around two sides of the home and is shaded by eaves and cantilevered over the hillside. Stunning panoramic views of city lights and surrounding hills are a highlight of the property.
The kitchen is also lined with windows and a breakfast room to enjoy more views. There is also direct access to a two-car garage, a must in the parking challenged hills.
