Hollywood Haunt The Cat & Fiddle to Close

cat-fiddle-hollywood

There are some downsides to the booming development of Hollywood. Legendary haunts like The Cat & Fiddle can’t and won’t survive sharply rising rents.

Bloggers and commenters over at Eater and the LA Times continue to debate who is really at fault, but the news is official now. The 32 year old restaurant/bar and favorite watering hole will officially close December 15th.

The Cat & Fiddle opened in 1982 and spent three years on Laurel Canyon Blvd before moving to Sunset. The British Pub was a favorite spot for musicians and celebrities throughout the years. Drew Barrymore and Morrissey were regulars. And it was one of the few places in L.A. to taste a genuine Scotch Egg.

No official word on who or what will replace “The Cat”. Rumors and uproar abound that a chain restaurant will take over. But all that’s been confirmed is that a “familiar name” will be involved. In LA’s chef-lebrity culture, that could be anyone.

Head on over for one last drink on the patio:
