There’s a lot more to the Hollywood Hills than the famous Bird Streets or the storied Laurel Canyon. One of those smaller neighborhood gems is Lake Hollywood, and the three smaller developments that make up the majority of the 750 odd homes in the area. Our Home of the Week comes to you from the Lake Hollywood Knolls.

Since last being sold in 2011 the house underwent an extensive renovation in 2014. The property has a unique defining characteristic. It’s built around a circular main structure that was originally envisioned as a helipad. Fortunately for the neighbors, permits were never secured.

Highlights of the renovation include all new windows, which are not only energy-saving but open up the surrounding views. The kitchen has been updated to all stainless appliances and a more modern feel.

Like the neighborhood itself the home has a history. Originally designed by Lorand West, best known for his design of iconic LA restaurants like Morton’s and The Ivy, the home is believed to have been his private residence. And according to the LA Times, mid-century matinee idol Rock Hudson housed his longtime beau and lover Marc Christian MacGinnis here.
