This week’s highlighted property is a completely remodeled Midcentury Modern in the prestigious Doheny Estates neighborhood of the Hollywood Hills. It also happens to be listed by Benny Medina, aka the real life “Fresh Prince of Bel-Air”.
Constructed in 1963, the home originally featured three bedrooms across roughly 3,000 square feet. But Medina spent the last five years thoroughly renovating the property. Now the two-story home occupies 5,500 square feet of indoor space and features a stunning stone fireplace in the sunken living room.
The outdoor spaces were also upgraded not only with new landscaping, but an outdoor kitchen complete with pizza oven and a 50 foot pool and spa.
“Everything in the house is a vintage piece,” Medina said in a feature in the Wall Street Journal. Though Medina took on much of the design work himself, he quickly claims designers like James Mont and Jacques Adnet as guiding inspirations for the remodel. He was so meticulous that he went through three contractors to complete the project to his specifications.
Highlights include dark oak wood floors, diamond-shaped coffered ceilings and new floor-to-ceiling windows that access sweeping city and canyon views.
“I made very good decisions, and I made very bad decisions, and I paid the price for it,” said Medina. When pressed, he wouldn’t reveal the full cost of the renovation cost “because I would be embarrassed.”
Still, Medina is eager to take on another renovation project, which is one of the primary reasons he is selling. That and spending more time in New York. Through Medina’s work as a producer and talent manager he inspired and pitched the iconic 90’s television series, “The Fresh Prince of Bel-Air”. He is also the longtime manager of Jennifer Lopez.
