CALVIN KLEIN JOINS CELEBRITY BURSTING BIRD STREETS IN THE HOLLYWOOD HILLS

As spec homes like this one purchased by fashion mogul Calvin Klein continue to fly off the market, the Bird Streets of the Hollywood Hills are fastly becoming some of the most expensive real estate in Los Angeles. Klein purchased this 9,300 square-foot mansion for $25 million.

Once known for quaint winding hills and quiet streets made up of Mid-Century Modern and Spanish style homes, sleek contemporary glass-walled homes like this one from Paul McClean are now the defining aesthetic of the Bird Streets.

Featuring five beds and seven baths and a long list of amenities that will surely impress his next door neighbors, the Winklevoss twins, not the least of which are fully retractable walls of glass that open onto a grassy lawn and 65-foot infinity pool. According to the Wall Street Journal, the first to report on the sale, Klein knew he “wanted to end up with something that had a lot of glass”. He certainly succeeded by that measure.Bird-Streets-Hollywood-Hills (6)

Another must for Klein was panoramic views. His new hillside property has 180 degrees of them, with views from downtown to the Pacific Ocean that are visible from nearly every vantage point the home offers.

Other highlights include 13 foot ceilings throughout, a home theater with enough lounge space for 12 to sprawl out comfortably and perhaps the properties signature: “a bridge over a waterfall and reflecting pool.”

The home was listed in January with a nearly $30 million ask, so Klein’s patience was rewarded with a $5 million discount.

This is Klein’s first permanent residence in Los Angeles, though he will continue to live mostly in New York City. He also owns a home in Southampton, N.Y., as well as a $16 million mansion in Miami Beach, which is currently on the market.
