5750 BRIARCLIFF ROAD IN THE OAKS: THE QUIET SIDE OF THE HOLLYWOOD HILLS

Right on the edge of Griffith Park on the easternmost edge of the Hollywood Hills you’ll find one of the most idyllic neighborhoods in Los Angeles: The Oaks. Spreading Oak, Hill Oak, Holly Oak, each street in this verdant and green neighborhood has the word “Oak” in it.

The hills surrounding the Oaks are a mix of all Southern California’s famed natural beauty, from wildflowers and palm trees to creosote bushes. And, yes, there are of course stately and beautiful oak trees. With such tranquil surroundings it’s no surprise that The Oaks is no longer one of the Hollywood Hills best kept secrets.

The last decade has seen celebrities migrating to the once quiet family dominated neighborhood. There certainly are a diversity of homes for them to choose from. Unlike some of the more planned Hollywood Hills communities, The Oaks doesn’t have an overall aesthetic.

What it does have is rich architectural history. Spanish Revival style homes of the 30’s and 40’s sit alongside ranch and post and beam homes of the ‘60’s. While new construction is limited, a handful of contemporary ultra-modern glass walled homes cling to the hillsides.

The Oaks can also boast not one but two homes by the master Frank Lloyd Wright and his apprentice and contemporary, Richard Neutra. With sweeping views of the city, the canyons and even the Pacific, it’s easy to see why homes in this storied neighborhood are built around balconies, terraces and verandas.

Take our Listing of Week, 5750 Briarcliff Road. This Mid-Century Modern home has kept its bones while undergoing a meticulous transformation from one of Los Angeles’s most renowned practicing archeticture and design firms, Marmol Radziner.

The grounds are lushly landscaped and sit below a deck. Plans for a pool are included.
